Telemundo Reorgs Digital Media Units
by Mike Shields - Mediaweek
Telemundo announced a reorganization of its digital properties, including the formation of a new group called Digital Media and Emerging Businesses Division headed by vp Peter Blacker, who was most recently the Spanish-language media company’s senior vp, Digital Media, Telemundo Network Group.
The new division encompasses both Telemundo’s and sister cable networks’ mun2’s multi-platform content efforts, along with the company’s major Web properties, including Yahoo Telemundo and holamun2.com. Blacker will report directly to Telemundo COO Jacqueline Hernandez.
Hernandez said that digital has become a primary focus for Telemundo, particularly given a host of research that paints to U.S. Hispanics as heavy consumers of the Web and mobile platforms. Besides programming and Web sites, the new Digital Media and Emerging Businesses Division will house the company’s branded entertainment operations, its international digital efforts and Telemundo Emerging Platforms, which handles licensing agreements and DVD distribution. Blacker’s team will also focus on making digital and mobile a priority among Telemundo’s local stations, said Hernandez.
